Searching for the perfect bride workout plan can leave you with hundreds of different options. You can find workouts promising to transform your arms in 30 days, challenges designed to give you a “bridal body”, endless ab workouts and meal plans telling you exactly what you should and shouldn’t be eating. With so much advice available, it’s easy to feel like you need to completely overhaul your lifestyle as soon as you have a wedding date in the diary.
But your wedding preparation doesn’t need to become a second full-time job. A good bride workout plan should give you structure and direction, while still allowing you to enjoy the months leading up to your wedding. It should help you become stronger, fitter and more confident, rather than leaving you exhausted from trying to do everything perfectly. Most importantly, you shouldn’t feel like you’re doing it all on your own.
You Don’t Need to Do Everything
One of the biggest mistakes I see when women decide they want to get fit for their wedding is trying to do too much, too quickly. The excitement of having a goal can be brilliant, but it can also lead to an unrealistic routine that simply isn’t sustainable.
You might suddenly decide you’re going to train five or six days a week, completely change your diet, increase your steps, start running and cut out all of the foods you enjoy. It can feel great for the first couple of weeks when motivation is high, but eventually real life catches up with you. Work gets busy, wedding planning becomes stressful, you have a weekend away, or simply don’t have the energy to train six times that week.
That doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It means the plan wasn’t designed around your actual life.
A good programme should be something you can maintain consistently. You don’t need to spend every spare hour in the gym to make progress, and you certainly don’t need to punish yourself with exercise because you’ve had a meal out.
You Need a Plan That Progresses
There’s a big difference between exercising and following a structured training programme. Doing random workouts whenever you have time can certainly be enjoyable and beneficial, but having a plan allows you to actually work towards something.
With a structured bride workout plan, we can look at where you’re starting and gradually build from there. You might begin by learning the basics of strength training, become more comfortable with different exercises and then gradually increase the weights or repetitions as you get stronger. Over time, you’ll be able to look back and see how much you’ve progressed.
That’s far more rewarding than simply completing a workout and moving on to the next one without knowing whether you’re actually improving.
It also means your training can be adjusted around you. If an exercise doesn’t feel right, if you have an injury or if your schedule changes, there is room to adapt rather than feeling like you’ve ruined the whole plan.
Having Someone in Your Corner Makes a Difference
This is one of my favourite parts of coaching brides. You’re not just receiving a workout plan and being left to figure everything else out yourself.
Wedding planning can be exciting, but it can also be stressful. There are venues, suppliers, guest lists, payments, dress fittings, family arrangements and a seemingly endless list of decisions to make. It’s very easy for your own wellbeing to slip further down the list when there are so many other things going on.
Having a coach means you have someone who is focused on you and your goals throughout that process. If you’ve had a particularly stressful week and haven’t managed to complete everything you planned, we can work out what to do next rather than you deciding that you’ve fallen off track. If you’re unsure about an exercise or your nutrition, you have someone to ask. And when you reach a milestone, whether that’s lifting a heavier weight or simply feeling more confident in the gym, you have someone there to celebrate it with you.
Sometimes having someone in your corner is just as valuable as having the programme itself.
Your Nutrition Matters Too
Your bride workout plan shouldn’t exist completely separately from your nutrition. If you’re training regularly, your body needs enough energy and nutrients to support that training, and you don’t need to follow a crash diet to make progress.
This is where I think wedding preparation can easily become unhealthy. It’s tempting to believe that the less you eat, the quicker you’ll reach your goal, but drastically restricting your food can leave you tired, hungry and miserable. It can also make it much harder to enjoy your social life, which is a huge part of the run-up to a wedding.
Instead, your nutrition should support your goals while still allowing you to have dinner with friends, enjoy your hen do, go on holiday and eat your favourite foods. We can look at things such as calories, protein, fibre and meal structure, but the aim is to create habits that work alongside your life rather than taking over it.
You don’t need to feel guilty about eating your wedding cake before you’ve even got to the wedding day.
You Need Flexibility
The months before your wedding aren’t always predictable. You might have a week where everything goes perfectly, and you manage every planned workout, hit your step target and feel completely on top of your nutrition. The following week could be completely different.
That is normal.
A rigid plan that falls apart as soon as life gets busy isn’t particularly useful. Your training should be flexible enough to accommodate holidays, weekends away, work commitments and those inevitable weeks when wedding planning takes up more time than expected.
This is another reason why having a coach can be so helpful. Rather than thinking you’ve “ruined” your progress because you missed a couple of sessions, we can simply adjust your plan and carry on. You don’t need to compensate by restricting your food or doubling your workouts the following week.
Progress comes from what you do consistently over time, not from having a perfect week every single week.
You Deserve to Enjoy the Process
It’s easy to become so focused on how you want to look on your wedding day that you forget about everything happening before it. But your wedding day is one day; the months of preparation are a much bigger part of the experience.
I want you to be able to look back at that time and remember becoming stronger, feeling more confident and enjoying your training. I want you to feel proud of what your body is capable of and comfortable knowing that you looked after yourself while preparing for such an important occasion.
That doesn’t mean you can’t have an aesthetic goal. Wanting to feel good in your wedding dress is completely understandable. It’s simply about approaching that goal without making yourself miserable in the process.
You Don’t Have to Figure it All Out Yourself
You might know that you want to get fitter before your wedding but have absolutely no idea where to start. Perhaps you’ve tried going to the gym before but never felt particularly confident there, or you’ve followed workout plans online without knowing whether they’re actually appropriate for you.
That’s where personalised coaching can make a real difference.
Rather than giving you a generic list of exercises, I can build your training around your goals, your current fitness level, your schedule and your experience. We can work on your strength and fitness, make sure you’re comfortable with the exercises you’re doing and adapt things as you progress.
Alongside your training, I can also support you with your nutrition and accountability, so you have one person helping you look at the bigger picture rather than trying to piece everything together yourself.
